Having been a founding member of the Lipedema World Alliance and faculty at the inaugural meeting in Potsdam, I was looking forward to seeing how far the field had come in two years. I was not disappointed. This, the second meeting in Rome, managed to build on those foundations and provided insights into more of the mechanisms underpinning lipedema. As part of the scientific committee, I was proud of the collaborative spirit in which the research sessions were conducted. I was honoured to be able to present my surgical technique as well as a number of scientific papers and sit on an expert panel. I was also honoured to be invited to join the board of the Lipedema World Alliance. An incredible few days indeed.
