Your rhinoplasty journey with Brighton Plastic Surgery begins with guidance at every stage.

From your initial consultation through to recovery, we ensure you feel well-informed, supported, and confident in your decision.

We understand that choosing to undergo rhinoplasty surgery is a personal decision, whether for aesthetic or functional reasons. Our goal is to provide a clear, professional, and personalised experience tailored to your needs.

How to book a rhinoplasty consultation

The first step is to contact Brighton Plastic Surgery online or email jacqui@plasticsurgeryaustralia.com to speak with our patient advisor, Jacqui. Alternatively, call our practice on (03) 9592 0522.

Jacqui will provide information about our practice and the consultation process with Mr Mutimer.

You will require a referral from your general practitioner before we can schedule an initial consultation. Then, we can arrange your appointment.

What happens during your first rhinoplasty consultation?

Your consultation is with Mr Keith Mutimer

Before your consultation, we will take 3D images of your face and nose. During your appointment, Mr Mutimer will use these images to simulate potential surgical outcomes. This may help you understand what’s achievable based on your individual features.

Mr Mutimer will discuss your concerns, preferences, and expectations. He will then perform a thorough external and internal assessment of your nose. From there, he will outline the most suitable nose surgery options and explain the procedure, recovery, and expected final results.

As part of this discussion, we will review your medical and surgical history. It’s helpful to bring any relevant details about past procedures or conditions.

To further guide your decision, you may have the opportunity to view before-and-after images of patients who have provided consent for educational purposes.

Meet our patient advisor

Following your consultation with Mr Mutimer, you will meet our patient advisor, Jacqui.

Jacqui will provide further details to help you consider your next steps.

This includes information on estimated costs, hospital options, surgery timing, and recovery expectations. Jacqui will also guide you through Mr Mutimer’s approach and the process for moving forward, should you decide to proceed.

We recommend allowing at least an hour for your initial consultation. This is a detailed discussion; many patients have plenty of questions for both Mr Mutimer and Jacqui.

Jacqui remains available to assist with any additional questions following your consultation.

Once you have had time to consider all information, Jacqui will be in touch to arrange a follow-up appointment.

Does Medicare cover Rhinoplasty?

During their initial consultation, many patients inquire about Medicare and private health insurance coverage for rhinoplasty.

Coverage eligibility depends on the reason for surgery (e.g. functional vs. cosmetic) and your level of private health cover. Jacqui will explain what may or may not be claimable based on your circumstances.

Your second rhinoplasty surgery consultation

Should you wish to proceed with rhinoplasty surgery, you will have a second consultation with Mr Mutimer

During this follow-up consultation, we will finalise the details of your nose surgery. We will:

  • Confirm your surgical plan
  • Discuss potential risks and complications
  • Address any remaining questions or concerns
  • Take pre-operative photos
  • Complete the surgical consent process

After this consultation, you will once again meet with Jacqui for any additional questions you may have.

Jacqui will also organise an appointment seven days later, during which:

  • We finalise your rhinoplasty surgery booking
  • We confirm admission and payment details
  • You meet with a practice nurse to go over preparation, recovery, and aftercare

Preparing for Rhinoplasty surgery

If you decide to proceed with rhinoplasty, Jacqui and our practice nurses will support you through the process.

You will receive detailed information to help you understand the procedure and recovery expectations. Rhinoplasty preparation will include guidance on:

  • Arranging transport home after surgery, as you will be unable to drive
  • Planning for rest and time off work, including avoiding strenuous activities like gym and sport
  • Household support, such as help with groceries, meal preparation, and light duties
  • Caring for pets and family members during your initial recovery period
  • Managing comfort and hygiene, including assistance with bathing if needed

Our team is here to answer any questions and ensure you feel well-prepared and supported ahead of your surgery.

Your surgery day

On the day of your rhinoplasty procedure, you will be admitted to Cabrini Brighton or Linacre Private in Hampton.

Most rhinoplasty patients stay overnight in the hospital to ensure a comfortable recovery during the initial postoperative period.

Before you leave, your follow-up appointments will already be scheduled. You will receive clear instructions on who to contact should you have any questions or concerns during your recovery.

Post-surgery: what happens during Rhinoplasty recovery?

After your rhinoplasty, you will return to our rooms for scheduled follow-up appointments. These routine check-ups are important to monitor your healing and ensure your recovery stays on track.

Most patients feel comfortable resuming some activities and going out in public around two weeks after surgery. However keep in mind that recovery times vary between individuals.

By six weeks post-surgery, most patients can return to their regular activities, including exercise. However, it’s important to follow the post-operative guidelines provided by your surgeon.

The most noticeable healing occurs in the first six weeks, but some residual swelling and numbness can continue improving over three to six months.

In addition to medical care, maintaining a good diet and staying hydrated can support your recovery process.
