Dr Lipi Shukla Awarded Research Grant from the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons at the 2025 Plastic Surgery Congress

From the 26th to the 28th of June 2025, Dr Lipi Shukla attended the annual Plastic Surgery Congress, hosted by the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons at the International Convention Centre in Sydney. The three-day event brought together specialist surgeons from across Australia for surgical workshops, medical education, and professional development.

During the Congress, Dr Shukla presented her clinical work on neuralgia-related headache disorders, a complex area that intersects with nerve compression pathologies.

Dr Shukla was also recognised as one of three surgeons nationally to receive a research grant from the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. This is a yearly grant awarded to ASPS members to support the scientific investigation of clinical problems, promoting research that can lead to improved patient outcomes.

Her upcoming research, titled “Investigating the Functional and Molecular Aspects of Nerve Injury and Regeneration: Accelerating Recovery in Peripheral Nerve Injury Using Adipose-Derived Stem Cell Therapy”, will explore how regenerative therapies, including the use of fat-derived (adipose) stem cells, may help enhance the body’s natural healing processes after nerve damage.

The project aims to investigate how these cells interact with injured nerves at both a functional and molecular level, with the goal of improving recovery outcomes and reducing long-term complications for patients affected by peripheral nerve injuries.
