Nose Surgery Melbourne

Surgery to change the shape of your nose is called a Rhinoplasty. A Rhinoplasty will change the shape, size and general appearance of the nose.

The desired result is to achieve a harmonious balance with a person’s other facial features.

Even minor or subtle changes can have a profound effect on the overall appearance of the nose. It is important to discuss this with your surgeon.

You may be a candidate for nose surgery if:

  • Your nose is large or out of proportion to the rest of your facial features
  • There is a bump on the nasal bridge when viewed in profile
  • Your nose is disproportionately wide when viewed from the front
  • The nasal tip droops or plunges
  • The tip is thickened or enlarged
  • Your nostrils are excessively flared
  • Your nose is off centre or crooked
  • Previous injury has made your nose asymmetrical

Nose surgery can also correct some internal nasal structure related breathing problems at the same time that nose reshaping is being performed.

It is critical that you tell your surgeon if you have ever had dermal fillers injected into your nose, regardless of how long ago. This information forms an important part of your surgical plan.

Rhinoplasty is an inpatient procedure that is performed under general anaesthesia.

Cosmetic vs. Correctional Nose Surgery in Melbourne

The decision for nose surgery usually comes down to one of two following motivations:

Cosmetic purposes usually pertain to the visual appearance of the nose.

Prospective patients considering nose surgery for cosmetic purposes are often seeking changes in relation to:

  • The size of the nostrils
  • The size of the nose in proportion to the rest of the face
  • Reshaping the nose and / or the tip
  • Straightening a crooked nose
  • Changing the shape of the bridge of the nose

It is important to discuss your concerns with your surgeon who can guide you on what is possible and what to expect.

Correctional nose surgery is designed to solve, reduce, or alleviate a problem due to structural or mechanical reasons.

If you do not have full or ‘normal’ functionality of your nose, then your procedure would usually be classified as correctional. Problems that medical nose surgery may solve include:

  • Past nose injuries or breaks
  • Nasal inflammation
  • Breathing problems
  • Deviated septum

Is There An Age Limit For Nose Surgery?

There is no upper age limit for rhinoplasty surgery in Australia however it is most common for patients in their 20s to 40s.

Our surgeons recommend that younger people wait until they are at least 16 -18 years old before considering having nose surgery.

The main reasons for this are to ensure that the nose is fully developed and that the decision to have rhinoplasty is carefully thought out.

Your Consultation
Initial consultation:

Rhinoplasty surgery patients first meet Mr Mutimer or A/Prof Shayan where you will discuss the procedure in detail, technique to be used and recovery time. Photos will be taken. You will receive information about the surgery itself, the surgeon who will perform the surgery and costs.

You will have complimentary 3D scanning, with simulated images emailed to you the same day. 3D scanning allows you to better understand what the proposed changes to your nose shape may look like.

Second consultation:

Once you have had time to review all the information from the first consultation and you want to progress with your surgical journey you will meet Mr Mutimer or A/Prof Shayan again for a further consultation.

You will also meet with the Patient Advisor and Practice Nurse to discuss surgical documentation and pre and post-operative care instructions.

7 days after this consultation your surgery dates can be booked and payments made.

Rhinoplasty Cost

  • Initial Consultation – $400

  • Procedure – $14,000 – $20,000 (Rhinoplasty cost includes surgeons fee, hospital fees , anaesthetist fees & up to 6 weeks after care appointments with practice nurse)

Cosmetic Surgery is real surgery and requires a general anaesthetic, both carry risks. All surgery has a post operative recovery time. We will discuss this in detail at your consultation. Your recovery time may be impacted by a range of factors, including your type of work, personal responsibilities, support available, and your health history, as well as the surgery itself. All surgery carries risks, complications are not common but they can occur and these will be discussed at your consultations.
