Fat Injections

Face and Body Fat Injections

This technique, also known as fat transfer or fat grafting, uses a patient’s own fat to add volume to areas of the face or body.

Fat Grafting Melbourne

Fat grafting is a procedure used to transfer a patient’s own fat to areas where volume has reduced.

Also known as autologous fat transplantation, fat injections involve harvesting fat from one part of the body and injecting it into another area.

Fat transfer may be used to:

  • Address areas of volume loss in the face
  • Add volume to selected areas of the face or body
  • Improve contour in certain areas
  • Soften the appearance of some lines or folds

Suitability for fat grafting depends on individual anatomy and the availability of donor fat (fat taken from another area of the patient’s own body).

Fat Transfer to Face

Facial fat transfer involves taking fat, typically from the thighs or buttocks, and transferring it to areas of the face where volume has reduced.

The transferred fat may be used to:

  • Soften the appearance of deeper lines or folds
  • Add volume to areas such as the cheeks or lips
  • Improve facial contour in selected areas

Fat injections in the face can be performed as part of other procedures, including facelift. Initial changes are visible after the procedure, although swelling and healing will influence the early appearance.

Breast fat injection

Fat injections may be used in breast surgery to add volume and improve breast symmetry.

Fat transfer can be used in breast reconstruction following breast cancer treatment or risk-reducing surgery, as well as in the treatment of certain congenital breast conditions.

Suitability for breast fat transfer depends on individual anatomy and the availability of sufficient donor fat.

Cosmetic Surgery is real surgery and requires a general anaesthetic, both carry risks. All surgery has a post operative recovery time. We will discuss this in detail at your consultation. Your recovery time may be impacted by a range of factors, including your type of work, personal responsibilities, support available, and your health history, as well as the surgery itself. All surgery carries risks, complications are not common but they can occur and these will be discussed at your consultations.

Fat injection FAQ

Fat injections use a patient’s own fat to add volume to selected areas of the face or body.

Some patients prefer this approach because it uses their own tissue rather than synthetic fillers or implants. Fat grafting may also be used to address facial asymmetry caused by genetics, injury, or age-related volume loss.

Suitability depends on individual anatomy and the availability of fat that can be safely transferred.

The results of fat injections vary from patient to patient. Some of the transferred fat may be reabsorbed by the body during healing. For this reason, the final result can change over time. Additional treatments may sometimes be required to maintain volume.
Fat injections may be suitable for patients who have areas of volume loss in the face or body and sufficient fat available from another area of their body for transfer. The procedure is commonly considered in patients who have lost volume with age or who wish to improve symmetry in certain areas. It’s also very common in breast reconstruction. Suitability is determined during consultation and depends on individual anatomy and treatment goals.

Fat is usually taken from areas of the body where there is a small amount of excess fat available. Common donor areas include the abdomen, thighs, flanks, or buttocks.

The choice of donor area depends on the patient’s anatomy and the amount of fat required for transfer. This will be assessed during your consultation.

Fat grafting is considered in adult patients who have developed volume loss in the face or body over time or those exploring reconstructive surgery options. Suitability is assessed individually during consultation.
Not all transferred fat survives after the procedure. Some of the fat will be naturally reabsorbed by the body during healing. This is why the final volume can vary between patients.
Recovery varies depending on the treatment area and the donor site where fat is harvested. Swelling and bruising are common initially. Patients may be advised to rest, use cold compresses, keep the head elevated, manage dressings, and limit strenuous activity during the early recovery period. Follow-up appointments are required to monitor healing.
