Ear Surgery Australia
About Ear Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery for the ear, known as “otoplasty”, corrects prominent ears.
Ear reduction surgery in Australia is a very common procedure in children aged around 5–6 years, and is carried out mainly to change the shape and the prominence of the ear/s.
Otoplasty is also performed on teenagers and adults.
Ear plastic surgery involves your surgeon pinning the patient’s ears back closer to the head thus making them less prominent.
Ear surgery can also help correct, reduce, or otherwise treat conditions where the ear folds over either inwards or downwards.
For patients aged 16 and under, Medicare or other healthcare rebates may partially or fully fund ear surgery.
Who Is a Good Candidate For Otoplasty Surgery?
Your Consultation
Ear Plastic surgery patients first meet Mr Mutimer or A/Prof Shayan where you will discuss the procedure in detail, technique to be used and recovery time. Photos will be taken. You will receive information about the surgery itself, the surgeon who will perform the surgery and costs.
Once you have had time to review all the information from the first consultation and you want to progress with your surgical journey you will meet Mr Mutimer or A/Prof Shayan again for a further consultation.
You will also meet with the Patient Advisor and Practice Nurse to discuss surgical documentation and pre and post-operative care instructions.
7 days after this consultation your surgery dates can be booked and payments made.
Ear Plastic Surgery Cost
Please note that otoplasty costs provided are indicative only – intended to give patients a realistic estimate of associated costs. Actual otoplasty cost may vary depending on individual patient circumstances. In some cases Medicare or health fund rebates may apply.
Prospective patients often wish to see photos of people who have previously had this surgery. We don’t share these images on the website as we respect our patients privacy, however they are available during a consultation.
Cosmetic Surgery is real surgery and requires a general anaesthetic, both carry risks. All surgery has a post operative recovery time. We will discuss this in detail at your consultation. Your recovery time may be impacted by a range of factors, including your type of work, personal responsibilities, support available, and your health history, as well as the surgery itself. All surgery carries risks, complications are not common but they can occur and these will be discussed at your consultations.
